Slepo crevo se nalazi u donjem desnom delu trbusne duplje. Da bi vam pomogli da ga locirate,recimo da je petnaestak santimetara udaljeno od pupka,sa desne strane. To je naravno okvirno,jer slepo crevo nije kod svih ljudi na potpuno istom mestu,i njegov polozaj zavisi od polozaja debelog creva za koje je pricvrsceno.


Sto se tice pitanja sta je u stvari slepo crevo,sam taj prevod originalnog naziva appendix nije dobar. Jer ono sto se u narodu naziva slepo crevo je u stvari CREVULJAK,crevasta izraslina duzine oko osam santimetara,koja krece iz krajnjeg dela debelog creva(sto je u stvari slepo crevo). Sam taj crevuljak je na samom kraju zatvoren. Ako vam ovo deluje malo zamrseno pogledajte dosta detaljnije objasnjenje sta je slepo crevo .

Sama njegova gunkcija u organizmu nije velika. Mnogi se slazu da ono uopste nema funkciju. Jedina moguca korist je sto se u njemu proizvode takozvane dobre bakterije,koje iz slepog creva prelaze u debelo crevo,blago pomazu rad metabolizma i unistavaju mikrobe u slepom crevu. Kada koncentracija tih bakterija iz bilo kog razloga bude povecana,one proizvode sluz koja moze da smanji ili zacepi otvor izmedju slepog i debelog creva. Tada bakterijene mogu da prodju u debelo crevo pa napadaju zid slepog creva,inficiraju ga i dolazi do upale.
